Documents you'll need

• W-2s and all 1099 forms (NEC, K, INT, DIV, B)
• Last year's return
• Form 1098s: mortgage, student loan interest, tuition
• For a business: income and expenses for the year, or access to your books
• Form 1095-A if your health insurance came from the marketplace
• The highest balance of each foreign account during the year

Common questions

What are the deadlines?

Individual 1040: April 15. S-corps and partnerships: March 15. An extension gives you six more months to file, but not to pay: the tax is still due by the original date.

Can you file for past years?

Yes. File a missed return as soon as possible, since the penalty keeps growing until it's filed. A refund can be claimed if you file within three years.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the number of forms and states. I'll give you an exact price after a short call, before any work starts.
