Simplified: standard deduction; no EITC, AMT, 3.8% net investment income tax, or deductions such as self-employed health insurance. The QBI deduction assumes a business without employees. State taxes use 2025 rates (states haven't published 2026 amounts yet), without state credits, SDI or local taxes (such as Philadelphia's wage tax). A guide, not tax advice.

2026 and 2025 tax brackets

Each rate applies only to the slice of income inside its bracket. Moving into a higher bracket raises the tax only on the dollars above the line.

New York standard deduction: $8,000 (single, separate), $16,050 (joint), $11,200 (head of household), plus $1,000 per dependent. Above $107,650 of income the state phases out the benefit of the lower brackets, so all income ends up taxed at your top rate.
